For 2011, the Chevrolet Silverado heavy-duty (HD) 2500 and 3500 models are all-new, including frames, styling, independent front suspension, new 6.6-litre Duramax turbodiesel, and new features including a “smart” exhaust brake and hill start assist.
The Silverado HD is also sold as the GMC Sierra HD. Light-duty 1500 models are covered in a separate section.
The Silverado HD uses a 6.0-litre V8 gasoline engine or optional Duramax 6.6-litre V8 diesel. Both use six-speed automatic transmissions: a Hydra-Matic 6L90 with the gasoline engine, and Allison 1000 with the diesel.
The 2500 is available in a regular cab with long box, extended cab with standard or long box, and crew cab with standard or long box; the 3500 comes as a regular cab with long box, extended cab with long box, and crew cab with standard or long box. All are available in two- or four-wheel drive. The 3500 models are available in single-wheel or dual-wheel versions.
Trim lines are the WT, LT and LTZ.
Features on the WT include 17-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, keyless entry, OnStar with Turn-by-Turn Navigation, heavy-duty cooling package, chrome front and rear bumpers, automatic headlights, manual mirrors and windows, front recovery hooks, variable intermittent wipers, overhead console, vinyl floor covering, standard instrument panel with upper and lower glove boxes, driver information centre, tilt steering wheel, driver’s sunshade pocket, passenger sunshade mirror, 40/20/40 split-bench front seat in cloth or vinyl, and AM/FM stereo. The Crew and Extended cab models have a fold-up rear seat. Four-wheel drive models have a lever-operated 4WD transfer case.
The LT adds chrome wheel centre caps, privacy glass, heated power mirrors, winch-mounted spare tire carrier, cruise control, carpeting, vinyl floor mats, compass, exterior temperature display, leather-wrapped steering wheel, illuminated vanity mirrors, power windows with driver’s auto-down, premium cloth or leather seats, front locking console in centre seat cushion, and CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input. Four-wheel drive models have an electronic rotary dial for the 4WD transfer case.
The LTZ adds dual-zone automatic climate control, locking rear differential, electric trailer brake controller, trailer package with receiver, remote starter, fog lights, power-folding mirrors with integrated turn signal, auto-dimming driver’s side and tilt-down in reverse, premium instrument panel with single glove box, auto-dimming mirror, vehicle information centre with customization, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, auto-down passenger window, ten-way power-adjustable heated leather bucket seats, driver’s side memory, Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, premium Bose sound system and XM satellite radio. The Crew Cab with standard box adds 18-inch polished aluminum wheels.
